Movies cost 1 ticket for 7 days or 2 tickets for one whole year. Tickets cost between £4.99 to £10 depending how many you buy.

Are your movies the same as I would get on the DVD?

At StrictlyGayMovies it is our policy to provide all of the footage that you would find on the DVD, as if you had bought it from a shop. However, we do not provide trailers, cross-sells and adverts. We will even try to remove advertising from the beginning, end, and during the movie. We feel this detracts from the quality of the product we wish to offer. In some instances this cannot be done, as it would also remove footage, in these cases we leave the advert(s) in, and will even inform the studios that we feel this weakens their product, and your ability to enjoy it.

With regards to bonus scenes and extra footage, we enjoy this content and really want to provide it for our customers, but there are instances where we will not be able to provide it:

We often receive pre-release DVDs, this is so the distributor can release the DVD both online and in the shops at the same time. These pre-releases sometimes do not contain the extra/bonus footage. In some cases the content is hidden as a DVD 'Easter Egg' - in most cases this footage is found, but sometimes it can be missed. The process by which the scenes are created is a manual one, and in some instances extra content can be missed, certainly some of the older DVDs on the site do not contain this content, because the content-encoders at the time did not include it. Finally - and it is rare - but on some occasions a distributor will ask that the extra footage is not included, because they want you to buy the actual DVD. In this case we cannot provide you the content, although we will try to reason with them, and might even come back to it at a later date.

In all the cases above (even for the last, some time after it has been released), if we are told about the omission, then we are sorry, and will endeavour to get those bonus scenes and extra footage onto the site, as soon as possible.

Will my credit card ever be repeat-billed?

No, never! We will only bill you for purchases you make online. We rely on our great movies to bring you back to the site for more.

Will you hand out my email address to others?

No! We hate SPAM as much as you do. You will receive alerts and updates from Strictly Gay Movies from time to time, and we will endeavor to make these as relevant to each member as possible.

Compatibility

Which browser should I use?

Strictly Gay Movies is optimized for Internet Explorer. Please make sure you are using the most up to date version available. If you use Firefox, or another browser, movies may work, but you may experience some minor navigation problems.

Why does Firefox wipe out the page before playing asx files?

It is because of FireFox using windows media plung in to play asx files which results in a blank page.

To stop Firefox from calling the plugin and to force it to use windows media player directly follow the below instructions.

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Applications tab.
  3. Find Windows Media Audio/Video playlist (video/x-ms-asf) content type.
  4. Set the Action to use Windows Media Player instead of Windows Media Player Plugin.

What movie player do I need?

Strictly Gay Movies works best with Windows Media Player version 10 or above. You can download this here

What if my movies are not opening in the right player?

This problem arrises when Windows Media Player is not your default player. Here is how you change that:

Windows XP

  1. Go to Start Menu/Control Panel/Folder Options and switch to 'File Types' Tab.
  2. Locate ASX or ASF extension, mark it and click 'Change'
  3. In the new window please choose 'Windows Media Player' and click OK.
  4. Accept changes in the first window by clicking 'Close' and from now all movies should open in Windows Media Player by default.

Windows Vista

  1. Open Start Menu/Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel Home, click Programs, and then click Make a file type always open in a specific program.
  3. Or, in the Classic View, open Default Programs and then click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  4. Highlight .asx type in the list and click 'Change Program'.
  5. In the new window please choose 'Windows Media Player' and click OK.
  6. Accept changes in the first window by clicking 'Close' and from now all movies should open in Windows Media Player by default.

What speed should my Internet connection be?

Strictly Gay Movies is (as the name suggests) for broadband users only! The movies will play on ADSL, Cable and LAN connections as low as 256k, but for a memorable full-screen viewing experience, we recommend a connection of at least 512k. A connection speed of 1mb or higher will give even better results.

Can I rent and watch movies on a Mac?

Yes. Although our older movies don't work on Mac, all new movies do, with new ones added every day. On each movie page, there is a Mac icon showing whether the movie will work on your Mac.

How and why do I turn on javascript?

You need to have javascript enabled to view and use the site correctly. In Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x to 7.x, follow these instructions:

  1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click Custom Level in Security Level for this Zone.
  4. Scroll down to Scripting, near the bottom of the list.
  5. Under Active Scripting, choose Enable.
  6. Click OK to leave Security Settings. Click OK to leave Internet Options.

Downloading Handheld Movies

What are handheld movie downloads?

Handheld movie downloads are movies from Strictly Gay Movies for playback on your handheld devices. This is different from renting movies in that once you've downloaded the movie, it's yours to keep forever!

After downloading the handheld movie files to your PC, you transfer them to your handheld device and watch to your heart's content!

What do I need to watch the handheld movies that you have?

We currently support handheld movie downloads in two popular video formats:

  1. Apple iPod Video i.e. MP4 AVC format
  2. Sony Play Station Portable (PSP) i.e. MP4 format

Please ensure you activate and download the correct format movie for your device. You will also need enough free space on your PC and your handheld device to download and transfer the movie to your handheld device. See below for details.

How much free space will I need on my handheld device?

Each handheld movie is approximately 250-350 Megabytes (MB) in size, which is roughly equivalent to 100 MP3 songs, so you'll need to have at least this much space available for one movie. For the Sony PSP, we recommend that you have at least a 512MB compatible Memory Stick Pro Duo card

You will also need over 600 Megabytes (MB) of disk space free on your computer for you to download and extract the files.

I've downloaded the movie file, what do I do next?

Movies for the iPod Video and Sony PSP are supplied in ZIP format. You will first need to extract the contents of the ZIP file before you can transfer them to your handheld device.

If you are using Windows XP, your computer should already be capable of extracting the contents of ZIP files. Locate the downloaded ZIP file and right-click on the file. This should open a menu that gives you the options to 'Extract' or Extract all' the file. Click one of these options to extract the file. You may, ofcourse, also use WinZip, or any other compression utility to extract the contents of the file.

When extracting the files, pay close attention to where you are extracting the files as you will need to locate the files to copy them to your handheld device. Please also be sure you have enough free space available on your computer before extracting the downloaded file.

I've downloaded and extracted the Sony PSP movie. How how do I watch it on my Sony PSP?

If you're having trouble transferring downloaded movies to your Sony PSP, please refer to this link for more help on this.

I've downloaded and extracted the iPod Video movie. How how do I watch it on my iPod Video?

If you're having trouble transferring downloaded movies to your iPod Video, please follow these steps:

  1. Save the video to a location on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPod to your computer and open the Apple iTunes application.
  3. In the iTunes application, select 'Add File to Library' from the 'File' menu. Browse for the video you downloaded, then click 'Open.'
  4. In the iTunes application, click 'Edit,' then click 'Preferences.' Click the 'iPod' tab, then click 'Videos,' 'Automatically update all videos,' and 'OK.'
  5. iTunes will automatically copy the video to your iPod.
  6. On your iPod, select 'Videos,' then select 'Movies' to play your video content.

What happens if I can't download something I've paid for?

All iPod Video and Sony PSP movies should be downloadable. Once you've activated a movie for download, you'll have 24 hours to download the movie. If you are struggling to download files then it may be that your internet connection is unable to handle the file sizes. Check that your computer does not automatically disconnect before the files have downloaded.

Also be sure you have selected the correct destination folder for the downloaded files. Your computer/device may be storing them in a different place than you would expect like in temporary folders. Be aware that some systems restrict the size of files it will allow you to download. You must ensure that you can download files from Strictly Gay Movies before you make any purchases as refunds can only be provided within 7 days of purchases taking place.

You can try downloading the movie again by:

  1. Login with your email address and password: log in here
  2. Click on the Account button
  3. You should see the movie you have purchased under "Active Movies" - follow this link and click download on the iPod Video or Sony PSP icon to download the movie to your computer

Can I share files between my different devices?

Movies in the two supported video formats may be compatible with other devices, however we have only tested them on the devices listed above. Once you have purchased the file you should not be limited to a single device to watch your movie. This way you can, for instance, download files onto your PC and then easily copy them across to your PDA or mobile phone if you know they may be compatible. Kindly note that if you do download the movies for playback on other devices, you do so at your own risk.

If you think we should support other formats, please tell us which formats. If demand is high enough we'll try to support those too.

We ask that you do not pass copies of any files downloaded from Strictly Gay Movies to anyone else or load them onto any other person's device or upload them onto any file sharing sites.

Can I share files with other people?

No, no and no. Please also do not give other people your personal account details such as login and password.

I've rented a movie, but I keep seeing the video as green and upside down!

Don't worry. This is a known problem with Windows Media Player v10. Please download and install this fix from Microsoft to resolve it:

Microsoft fix

I've rented a movie, but the movie playback is very jerky / keeps freezing / buffering or the quality isn't very good. Please help!

The amount of buffering and quality is down to you connection speed and selected movie playback speed.

We recommend a minimum connection speed of 512kbps to fully experience the movies we have on offer, but also allow up to 1Mpbs for higher quality playback. It's possible your broadband connection may not be fast enough or you could be experiencing network congestion. Please also check that you're not downloading something whilst watching the movie.

You may like to test your connection speed using the speed checker on this page: Speed Checker

You could also try setting your connection speed in Media Player to more closely match your broadband connection speed. i.e. in Windows Media Player 10 or above:

  1. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Options"
  2. Click on the "Performance" tab
  3. Select "Choose connection speed" and select the most appropriate one from the drop down, e.g. "DSL/Cable (768 Kbps)" or "T1 (1.5 Mbps)"

This will allow Media Player to select the best quality setting for the movie playback.

I've tried everything here, but still have problems. Help!!

If all the above hasn't helped to resolve the problem, please email Customer Service with as much of the the following information as possible and our helpful customer staff will get back to you asap!

  1. Which version of Windows are you using? (e.g. Vista, Windows XP, 98, 2000, NT, etc)
  2. Are you using Microsoft Internet Explorer browser 5.5 or higher?
  3. Are you using Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 or above? Download Windows Media Player
  4. Do you know if you are able to play other Windows Media video without problem?
  5. Which broadband ISP are you using and what speed (e.g. 512kbps, 1Mbps, etc)?
  6. What is the exact error that are you seeing?
  7. What was the last thing that you did before getting this error?

I can't get Adobe Flash Player to work on Windows 7.

This problem is related to the browser you are using. Try using another browser, such as Firefox from Mozilla.

The underlying reason for this problem is compatibility. To use Flash Player to view Flash content on a 64-bit operating system, you need a 32-bit browser.

Windows 7 editions include 32-bit software. You can use the 32-bit Internet Explorer installed on your system.

Microsoft provides instructions on how to determine whether your Windows 7 or Internet Explorer is 32-bit or 64-bit. See the Microsoft support article Verify your environment and determine whether you are logged on with an administrator account.
